<p><img src="http://www.autocar.co.nz/_News/Skoda%20Vision%20E%20concept%20preview/2017-skoda-vision-e-teaser%20crop.jpg" /></p> <p>The Skoda Vision E concept, a forerunner to a 225kW electric crossover, has been teased ahead of its official unveiling at next month's Shanghai Motor Show.</p> <p>Utilising Volkswagen&rsquo;s new MEB or 'skateboard' platform, the five-door coupe SUV will undercut the likes of the Tesla Model X crossover when it goes on sale, probably known by the moniker Aratan.</p> <p>Similar in size to Kodiaq at roughly 4.6m in length, the concept accommodates four, although the final version will probably have seats for five. Vision E will be Skoda&rsquo;s first pure electric production vehicle.</p> <p>Electrification will be at the centre of our vehicle range by 2025, according to Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier. &ldquo;Vision E shows...how our design language will evolve." Skoda will be selling four pure EVs by 2025, all using the same MEB underpinnings, along with a Superb plug-in hybrid due for release before 2020. EVs are predicted to account for one-quarter of new vehicle sales by 2025.</p> <p>The Aratan will use a newly developed lithium ion battery pack, sandwiched into the floorpan, though its storage capacity is unclear. However, it is said to offer a range in excess of 500km and top speed is around 180km/h.</p> <p>The Vision E is an all-wheel drive concept, with an electric motor powering each axle. It will also have numerous autonomous features. The new chassis architecture delivers interior packaging enhancements, as the A pillar can be being positioned further forward than in a conventional car. Knee room in the Vision E will be greater than in the Octavia.</p> <p>A new interior layout features a sweeping dashboard with a 30cm touchscreen in the centre, its long axis being horizontal.
